Who is Roy Koopa?

Roy Koopa is one of Bowser's seven Koopalings, a brutish and bullying villain from the Mushroom Kingdom who serves his father's schemes against Mario and Princess Toadstool. He is distinguished by his pink sunglasses and imposing, heavy-set build.

Straight out of the Mushroom Kingdom chaos of 1990, Roy Koopa made his comic book debut in Super Mario Bros. #3 under the Acclaim/Valiant banner, brought to life by creators Bill Vallely, Mark McClellan, and George Wildman during comics' Copper/Modern Age. This villainous Koopa kid shares his mischief-filled pages with the likes of Bowser, Princess Toadstool, Mario, and fellow troublemakers Morton Koopa Jr. and Lemmy Koopa — a rogue's gallery that tells you everything about the wild, cartoonish energy these books delivered. Spread across Super Mario Bros. and Adventures of the Super Mario Bros., Roy may have a compact catalog presence, but for fans of the short-lived, wonderfully offbeat Nintendo comics era, tracking down his appearances is a genuine treat.
