Retread

Retread is a supporting character in Marvel's trucking-themed series U.S. 1, sharing the highways alongside protagonist U.S. Archer and other colorful road regulars at a truck stop setting that defined the series' quirky blue-collar world.

Retread rolled onto the scene in the Bronze Age Marvel universe with a debut in U.S. 1 #3 (1983), courtesy of creators Al Milgrom and Frank Springer — a comic that carved out its own wonderfully offbeat corner of the Marvel landscape with a trucker's-highway sensibility all its own. Sharing the road with characters like U.S. Archer, Annie Wheeler, and Wide-Load Annie, Retread is part of one of Marvel's more charmingly idiosyncratic series of the early '80s. With only a handful of appearances concentrated in that short-lived but fondly remembered run, this is exactly the kind of deep-cut Bronze Age find that makes digging through back-issue bins such a rewarding adventure.
