Prometheus
Prometheus is a DC supervillain conceived as a dark reflection of Batman — where Bruce Wayne witnessed his parents' murder and swore to fight crime, Prometheus watched police gun down his criminal parents and dedicated himself to destroying justice. He combines peak human conditioning with stolen skills downloaded directly into his brain.
Bursting onto the scene in Grant Morrison and Howard Porter's landmark JLA run in 1999, Prometheus is one of DC's most memorable modern-era villains — a dark mirror held up to the World's Greatest Heroes at the height of their late-'90s glory. Sharing the page with the likes of Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern, he was forged in the fires of one of comics' most celebrated creative partnerships and immediately positioned as a genuine threat to DC's mightiest. His debut issue carries collector-significant key status, a testament to the splash he made on arrival, and his presence across JLA and Justice League of America titles over more than two decades proves he left a lasting mark on the DC Universe. If you love the era when Morrison was reinventing what superhero comics could be, Prometheus is absolutely worth tracking down.
