Who is Prince Namor?

Prince Namor is the Sub-Mariner, the half-human, half-Atlantean ruler of the undersea kingdom of Atlantis. Born of a human sea captain and an Atlantean princess, he possesses superhuman strength and the ability to breathe underwater and fly.

Few characters can claim roots as deep in Marvel's soil as Prince Namor, who first surfaced in the pages of Marvel Mystery Comics #4 in 1940 β€” a genuine Golden Age original, there at the very birth of what would become the House of Ideas. Created by Ben Thompson, Namor has endured across an astonishing seven decades of comics history, rubbing shoulders with legends like the Human Torch, Victor Von Doom, and Charles Xavier along the way. His appearances span titles as varied as Marvel Mystery Comics, X-Treme X-Men, and Exiles, reflecting a restless, cross-universe presence that few characters of any era can match. With a key issue already to his name and a publishing lifespan stretching from 1940 all the way to 2013, Prince Namor is living proof that some characters are simply too compelling to stay in the past.
