Moses
Moses is the biblical patriarch depicted in religious and humor comics, most notably appearing in Dennis the Menace and the Bible Kids. Based on the Old Testament figure who led the Israelites out of Egypt, he has been adapted into illustrated devotional and humor publications.
Few comic characters can claim a Platinum Age debut stretching all the way back to 1926, but Moses — first brought to the page by Frank Hanley in Judge — is exactly that rare figure, one whose presence in the medium spans an extraordinary 89 years. Turning up most notably in Dennis the Menace and the Bible Kids, this is a character who has found a home across devotional and humor publishing alike, sharing illustrated adventures with some of the most storied names in all of Western storytelling — Adam, Eve, Jesus, Abel, and Cain among them. Published under Word Books and rooted in one of history's most enduring narratives, Moses represents a fascinating corner of comics history where sacred tradition and sequential art have long kept each other's company.
