Who is Minus?

Sheldon Mayer — the cartoonist genius behind so much of DC's lighter, funnier side — brought Minus to life in 1956 with The Three Mouseketeers #1, making this a late Golden Age charmer with real pedigree. Over roughly two decades, Minus popped up across a delightful corner of DC's catalog, sharing pages with the likes of Patsy, Fatsy, Ol' Whiskers, Dizzy Dog, and the wonderfully named McSnurtle the Turtle — a roster that tells you everything about the warm, whimsical world this character inhabits. Appearing in The Three Mouseketeers, Real Screen Comics, and the gloriously titled Glx Sptzl Glaah!, Minus is a genuine artifact of mid-century funny-animal comics at their most inventive. If you love the offbeat, lovingly crafted side of DC history, this is exactly the kind of discovery that makes digging through the back catalog such a joy.
