Gilbert Hernandez — one of the great architects of alternative comics — conjured Maximiliano into the pages of Blubber in 2016, the Fantagraphics series that stands as one of his most wildly unrestrained Modern Age creations. With only four catalogued appearances, Maximiliano is a figure of the margins, inhabiting the same strange, boundary-pushing world as Pupusi, Cristobol, Mila Castellon, Max, and Gronsky.
