Who is Lystig?

Lystig is the Scandinavian name for Happy, one of Snow White's seven dwarf companions from the classic fairy tale. Good-natured and perpetually cheerful, he is the most openly jovial of the group, quick to smile and lift the spirits of those around him.

Born in the pages of Donald Duck & Co in 1961, Lystig is a Silver Age creation with the distinguished pedigree of Carl Barks among the talents behind that debut issue — as fine a comics lineage as any character could hope for. Over an impressive span stretching all the way to 2024, this Hjemmet / Egmont character has kept lively company with the likes of Donald Duck, Søvnig, Brille, Prosit, and Blygen across beloved Scandinavian comics institutions like Klassisk Donald Duck and the festive Donald Duck & Co jul på xx-tallet. Modest in total catalog appearances but remarkably enduring across six-plus decades, Lystig is exactly the kind of charming corner-of-the-universe discovery that makes digging into the rich Nordic tradition of Donald Duck comics such a rewarding adventure.
