Who is Jack Boniface?

Jack Boniface is the alter ego of Shadowman, a New Orleans jazz musician who becomes bonded to a mysterious mask that grants him superhuman abilities and compels him to fight supernatural evil by night in the Valiant Universe.

Born in the fertile early 1990s Valiant/Acclaim universe, Jack Boniface made his debut in Comics Scene #25 in 1992, brought to life by creator Bob Schochet at a moment when the Copper Age was giving way to an explosion of bold new publishers and ambitious storytelling. Though his catalog footprint is compact at nine appearances — two of them collector-recognized key issues — he keeps genuinely impressive company, sharing pages with heavy hitters like Shadowman, Bloodshot, X-O Manowar, Ninjak, and the formidable Master Darque across titles including Deathmate and Bloodshot. For fans who love hunting the corners of that thrilling early-'90s indie landscape, Jack Boniface is exactly the kind of discovery that makes digging through long boxes so rewarding.
