Insect Queen
Lana Lang gained the ability to temporarily transform into any insect after being saved by an alien scarab beetle, which granted her a bio-genetic ring. She used this power to become Insect Queen, occasionally joining Superboy's adventures in Smallville.
Buzzing into DC's Silver Age in 1965's Superboy #124, Insect Queen is one of those wonderfully inventive creations that could only have emerged from the imaginative pens of Otto Binder and George Papp. With a publishing history stretching across an impressive five-plus decades, this character has proven far more enduring than a casual glance at the era might suggest, turning up in celebrated pages alongside the likes of Lana Lang, Clark Kent, and heavy-hitters from the Legion of Super-Heroes like Brainiac 5 and Chameleon Boy. Three of her appearances carry key-issue status β always a sign that collectors and editors alike recognized something special here β and her presence in Adventure Comics and the delightful Batman '66 Meets the Legion of Super-Heroes speaks to a character who has genuinely fluttered across multiple corners of the DC universe. For fans who love digging into the Silver Age's most colorful corners, Insect Queen is absolutely worth tracking down.
