Who is Horace?

Horace Horsecollar is one of Mickey Mouse's oldest friends in the Disney universe — an anthropomorphic horse and good-natured companion who has appeared alongside Mickey, Goofy, and Clarabelle Cow since the earliest days of Disney comics and animation.

Meet Horace, a character who first stepped onto the page in 1954 courtesy of creator C. D. Russell in the Norwegian publication Skippern, and has quietly persisted in the catalog all the way through 2019 — a quietly remarkable span of over six decades for a character with Golden Age roots. Published by Allers Forlag, Horace inhabits a wonderfully eclectic corner of comics where the company is genuinely stellar: Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Clarabelle, and other beloved figures share the same pages. It's a modest but charming presence in the Scandinavian comics tradition, and for collectors with a taste for the international edges of the Golden Age and the rich history of Nordic publishing, Horace is a delightful discovery worth seeking out.
