Who is Frida?

Frida made her entrance in the pages of MegaPyton in 1999, a product of the creative collaboration between the celebrated underground cartoonist Julie Doucet and Anne Thorsell, published by Sweden's Atlantic Förlags AB. Emerging at the tail end of the Copper Age and into the Modern era, she inhabits a distinctly alternative comics world, sharing her pages with a cast of characters — Daniel Ahlgren, Pappa Y-front, Andreas Lindén, and others — that suggests a richly idiosyncratic Scandinavian sensibility. With only a handful of catalogued appearances across a short-lived but intriguing run, Frida is a rare find, the kind of character that rewards the curious collector willing to dig into the more offbeat corners of European comics history.
