Forbush-Man
Forbush-Man is Marvel's self-parodying joke superhero, a hapless everyman who dons a cooking pot as a helmet and attempts — with spectacular incompetence — to fight crime. He embodies Marvel's gleefully self-mocking humor, existing primarily to lampoon the conventions of the superhero genre itself.
Few characters capture Marvel's irreverent, self-aware spirit quite like Forbush-Man, the gloriously absurd parody hero who first crashed onto the Silver Age scene in 1968's Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD #3 — of all places — courtesy of the legendary Jim Steranko. Over a remarkable span stretching all the way to 2024, this comedic cult figure has popped up across some of Marvel's most playful corners, from Fred Hembeck's beloved humor strips to the anarchic pages of Deadpool, sharing panel space with titans like Spider-Man, Captain America, and Iron Man while remaining gloriously, defiantly himself. With two key collector issues to his name and a longevity that few joke characters can claim, Forbush-Man is living proof that sometimes the funniest figure in the room is also the most enduring — and any fan who loves comics that wink back at you owes it to themselves to track him down.
