Who is Elastic Lad?

Elastic Lad is the stretching alter ego of Jimmy Olsen, Superman's pal, who gains rubber-like elasticity after drinking an experimental serum — allowing him to stretch and elongate his body much like DC's Plastic Man or Elongated Man.

Few characters capture the freewheeling imagination of Silver Age DC quite like Elastic Lad, who first stretched onto the scene in Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #46 in 1960, courtesy of the legendary team of Jerry Siegel and Curt Swan. A product of that wonderfully inventive era when anything could happen in a single issue, this rubbery figure went on to share pages with some of the most iconic names in the DC universe — Superman, Clark Kent, Supergirl, and even Green Lantern among them — which speaks to the surprisingly elevated company this character kept. With appearances spanning a remarkable fifty years across Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen, Adventure Comics, and all the way into Countdown to Final Crisis, Elastic Lad proved to have real staying power, and three collector-recognized key issues make this a name worth flagging for any serious Silver Age enthusiast. A charming, distinctly DC artifact of an era that loved to push its characters into wild new shapes — sometimes literally.
