Don Jirafito
Stepping out of the sun-drenched pages of Spanish Golden Age comics, Don Jirafito made his debut in the very first issue of Pumby in 1955, a creation of Palop for Editorial Valenciana — one of Spain's most beloved publishers of children's comics. Over the course of his run through the early 1960s, he shared those cheerful pages with a wonderful cast including Pumby, Caperucita Encarnada, and Pulgarín, making Pumby the natural home for his adventures. With 13 catalogued appearances and four of them recognized as collector-significant key issues, Don Jirafito punches well above his weight for a character of this vintage. For fans of mid-century Spanish comics and the warm, whimsical world Editorial Valenciana built, he's a charming piece of the puzzle well worth seeking out.
