Who is Cubitus?

Cubitus is a large, round, good-natured white dog who lives with Sémaphore, a retired sailor. Created by Belgian cartoonist Dupa, he first appeared in Le Journal de Tintin in 1971, with his cheerful disposition and vivid imagination constantly clashing with his cynical cat neighbor Sénéchal.

A cheerful fixture of Franco-Belgian comics, Cubitus made his debut in the pages of Le Journal de Tintin in 1971, right at the dawn of the Bronze Age, and went on to headline his own series across more than two decades of adventures. Published by Pocket and sharing the storied Tintin anthology stage with beloved characters like Ric Hochet, Clifton, and Tintin himself, this character found a warm and devoted readership in the rich tradition of European all-ages comics. With a run stretching from 1971 to 1992 and a dedicated title bearing his name, Cubitus is a testament to the enduring appeal of the Franco-Belgian school — proof that the world beyond the anglophone mainstream is brimming with characters well worth discovering.
