Who is Coot Collier?

A gruff figure who rode into the Bronze Age Marvel universe through the hellfire-tinged pages of Ghost Rider #26 in 1977, Coot Collier is one of those wonderfully atmospheric supporting players who gives the supernatural corners of Marvel their gritty, lived-in texture. Created by Jim Shooter and Don Perlin, he shares his stories with some genuinely heavy company — Johnny Blaze, Roxanne Simpson, and even Satan himself — which tells you everything about the dark, dramatic world he inhabits. His appearances carried over into Marvel UK's Chiller Pocket Book, making him a small but evocative piece of that era's transatlantic comics culture. Three appearances, but every one of them steeped in Bronze Age atmosphere worth seeking out.
