Clipper Charlie

Clipper Charlie is a minor supporting character who appeared in Marvel's spy-action comics alongside Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives during the 1960s–70s, operating in the world of espionage without any recorded superhuman abilities.

Born in the thick of Marvel's Silver Age explosion, Clipper Charlie made their debut in Strange Tales #136 in 1965, courtesy of the legendary trio of Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and John Severin — a creative pedigree that alone makes any appearance worth tracking down. Running through the early 1970s, this character moves in remarkably rarefied company, sharing pages with Nick Fury, Dum Dum Dugan, and Doctor Strange across the pages of Strange Tales and Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. With only six catalog appearances, Clipper Charlie is a rare find, and the fact that two of those issues carry recognized key status makes hunting them down a rewarding challenge for any serious Silver Age collector.
