Bror Skilpadde
Bror Skilpadde is the Norwegian name for Toby Tortoise, the good-natured turtle from Disney's animated fables who famously embodies the tortoise from Aesop's classic race. He appeared in Norwegian comics publications alongside Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and other Disney characters.
A Golden Age original with Scandinavian roots, Bror Skilpadde made his debut in 1954 within the pages of Skippern, published by Allers Forlag, and proved resilient enough to keep appearing across an impressive 36-year span through 1990. Created by the legendary Chic Young, this character found a home in beloved Norwegian publications including Donald Duck & Co julehefte, sharing pages with some of the most iconic Disney figures around — Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and more. A modest but genuine piece of Scandinavian comics history, Bror Skilpadde is a charming reminder of how the Golden Age cast a long and wide shadow across the globe.
