Babu
Babu is a well-meaning but bumbling genie from Hanna-Barbera's animated series Jeannie (1973). In Marvel's Laff-A-Lympics, he joined a massive roster of Hanna-Barbera all-stars competing in chaotic, comedy-driven Olympic-style competitions across exotic locations.
Straight out of the Bronze Age, Babu made their comic book debut in Marvel's Laff-A-Lympics #1 in 1978, brought to life by the talented Mark Evanier in one of the era's most delightfully chaotic all-star funny-animal extravaganzas. Sharing pages with an incredible roster including Yogi Bear, Hong Kong Phooey, Captain Caveman, and Dynomutt, Babu was part of a wonderfully crowded, laugh-packed world that Marvel served up with infectious energy. The series ran a brief but spirited course, and while Babu's catalog footprint of 13 appearances is modest, there's a genuine charm in tracking down these issues β a snapshot of late-'70s pop culture at its most exuberant and fun.
