Who is Arch Clements?

Arch Clements was a real-life outlaw associate of Jesse James, adapted into Avon's Western comics beginning in 1950. He appears as a member of the James-Younger gang's lawless circle, riding alongside Jesse and Frank James, the Younger brothers, and other notorious frontier figures.

Riding out of the Golden Age in a 1950 Avon Western, Arch Clements made his debut in Jesse James #2 under the pen of the legendary Joe Kubert — a pedigree that alone makes any appearance worth tracking down. Over a remarkable span stretching nearly four decades, this outlaw figure kept some of the wildest company the Western genre had to offer, sharing pages with Jesse and Frank James, Cole and Bob Younger, and Zee Mimms across titles like Badmen of the West. With only six catalogued appearances, Clements is a genuine rarity — the kind of deep-cut character that serious Western comics collectors love to unearth. If Kubert's name on the debut issue doesn't send you hunting, the sheer scarcity should.
