Who Is Superman?

Superman is one of the most iconic superheroes in comic book history — a Kryptonian alien named Kal-El, rocketed to Earth as a baby by his father Jor-El just before the planet Krypton was destroyed. Raised by the Kent family in Smallville, Kansas, he grew up as Clark Kent before becoming the Man of Steel. Powered by Earth's yellow sun, he wields an extraordinary array of abilities: superhuman strength, speed, flight, heat vision, freeze breath, X-ray vision, and near-invulnerability. He made his legendary debut in Action Comics #1 in 1938, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, and has been DC's flagship hero ever since — standing for truth, justice, and a better tomorrow.
