Who Is George Pérez?

George Pérez (1954–2022) was one of the most celebrated and influential artists in comic book history, beloved for his incredibly detailed linework and masterful ability to handle large casts of characters. He rose to superstardom at Marvel on titles like Avengers and Fantastic Four, then truly cemented his legend at DC Comics, where his work on New Teen Titans (with writer Marv Wolfman, starting in 1980) revitalized that team and became one of the best-selling DC series of the era. He and Wolfman then co-created the landmark Crisis on Infinite Earths (1985–1986), a universe-reshaping 12-issue maxi-series that remains a cornerstone of DC history. Pérez also delivered a hugely acclaimed run on Wonder Woman beginning in 1987, fully reimagining her origin and mythology. Later he returned to Marvel for a celebrated Avengers run with Kurt Busiek in the late 1990s. His Justice League of America work — collected in the DC Comics Classics Library — showcases his early DC contributions as well. He was universally admired not just for his art but for his warmth and generosity as a human being in the industry.
