What Is Secret Wars?

Secret Wars is one of Marvel's most iconic crossover events! The original Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars (1984–1985) is a 12-issue limited series written by Jim Shooter with art by Mike Zeck, where the cosmic Beyonder kidnaps Marvel's greatest heroes — Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Avengers, the Fantastic Four — along with a rogues' gallery of villains like Doctor Doom, Galactus, and Molecule Man, and drops them on a patchwork 'Battleworld' planet to fight it out. It's famous for landmark moments like Spider-Man discovering his black symbiote suit (which eventually became Venom) and Doctor Doom stealing the Beyonder's power. A second series, Secret Wars II (1985–1986), followed the Beyonder to Earth. Then in 2015, Jonathan Hickman wrote a massive new Secret Wars event that effectively ended the Marvel multiverse and rebuilt it, again centered on Battleworld.
