Startling Comics #42 is an anthology featuring multiple stories. "Portable Landing Field" by William B. McClellan follows Boy Scout Jerry Miller, who uses a portable landing field made of perforated metal sections and cement to help rescue his injured scout buddy George Baker from quicksand. "Pyroman" depicts Dick Martin, a researcher who gained electrical powers in an accident and now uses his sizzling energy as the superhero Pyroman to combat crime. "Trouble-Shooter" stars the hard-boiled detective Galahad Grant as he investigates a case involving a prospective client, a smuggling ring, an emerald, and a mysterious murder.
