His dramaturgy is as jumpy as an old Fort Lee movie; what ideas he offers on his own are seemingly the consequence of a poor ingestion of Keyserling, Bertrand Russell and the aforementioned Lawrence; and his at- tempts at comedy relief are redolent of vaudeville at its sourest. In the latter regard, I need only point to such devices as causing trank-movers to make monkeyshines on a stairway, which Mr. Howard probably enjoyed in the Hollywood movie, “So This Is College,” and as having detectives burst into a room and discover the wrong man, which Mr. Howard prob- ably enjoyed equally in several old Winter Garden sketches. The only reason I can deduce for Arthur Hopkins’s selection of the play is its dallying with psychoanalysis, a subject almost as close to his fancy as a glass of decent lager is to mine. If there is another reason, I am not a sufficiently gifted clairvoyant to get i it by the tail. Donn Cook and } Methot give performances that are commendable.
