Kōhei Horikoshi

Kōhei Horikoshi was born on November 20, 1986, in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. He is best known as the creator of the globally successful manga *My Hero Academia*, which by 2024 had sold over 100 million copies. Horikoshi graduated from Toho High School and Nagoya University of Arts. Before creating his own series, he worked as an assistant to Yasuki Tanaka, the artist behind *Summer Time Rendering*. His early serializations for Shueisha’s *Weekly Shōnen Jump* included *Oumagadoki Zoo* and *Barrage*, but it was *My Hero Academia* that established him as a major figure in shōnen manga. Horikoshi has cited *Dragon Ball*, *One Piece*, and *Naruto* as childhood favorites, and he draws inspiration from American superhero comics, especially Marvel. His art style is dynamic and expressive, blending manga storytelling with Western comic influences. He collaborated with the *Weekly Shōnen Jump* team and contributed to crossovers like *One-Punch Man / My Hero Academia Free Comic Book Day*. Horikoshi’s work has been adapted into a popular anime and multiple films. He received the Harvey Award for Best Manga in 2019. As of 2024, he continues to write and illustrate *My Hero Academia*, solidifying his legacy as a defining voice in modern manga.
