About the series
Running for seven issues between 1967 and 1970, Monsters and Heroes was a black-and-white comic magazine from the small press M & H Publications that blended sword-and-sorcery adventure with classic horror themes. Primarily written and drawn by Larry Ivie, with significant contributions from Louise Jones and Jeff Jones, the series stood out for its moody, atmospheric art and a willingness to tell strange, original fantasy tales outside the mainstream superhero boom. It remains a cult touchstone for fans of underground and genre-pushing comics of the late 1960s.
