“Book 4: Darkness Before the Dawn”

In "Book 4: Darkness Before the Dawn," Black Bart and his crew finally reach Oake Island, the legendary final resting place of Christ’s treasures, driven by greed and desperation. As the Holy Grail is claimed, the island’s cursed past awakens—ghostly horrors begin picking off Bart’s men, and the cabin boy Duncan watches in horror as his captain begins to change, consumed by something far older and darker than gold. The ghost ship, long lost to legend, returns to claim what was never meant to be found. Cover by Tim Seeley, with art by Jeff Austin and Mike Fiorentino, this 2006 Arcana issue delivers a haunting blend of maritime dread and supernatural peril, all written by Dwight MacPherson.

Black Bart and his crew reach Oake Island, the final resting place of the treasures of Christ. Bart pushes his men to dig up the treasure, despite the warnings of his cabin boy, Duncan, who claims to have seen a ghost ship sailing for the island. As Bart recovers the treasure and takes hold of the Holy Grail, ghostly creatures begin killing his men and he barely escapes with his life. Duncan, convinced the treasure is cursed, watches as his captain is slowly transformed into a monster. The ghost ship attacks and Bart is killed. His men unceremoniously dump him into Davy Jones Locker.
