The miniseries as a whole introduced the Egyptian river goddess Anuket to Earth-616 continuity and wove together the Orishas and the Ennead in a shared ancient conflict against the original vampire Varnae, expanding Wakanda's supernatural history in ways no prior Black Panther story had attempted. Issue #3 also provides a direct narrative bridge to the main Blood Hunt spine, as T'Challa leverages the Impossible City to teleport an Atlantean temple holding vampiric power directly into Central Park — a plot thread picked up in the larger event. The final image of Bast welcoming a returned, partially-uncursed T'Challa home gives the miniseries its own satisfying arc independent of the crossover machinery around it.

The series was announced by Marvel in February 2024 as a three-issue tie-in spinning out of Jed MacKay and Pepe Larraz's Blood Hunt event, which was itself teased at New York Comic Con in October 2023. Writer Cheryl Lynn Eaton, whose prior Marvel work consisted primarily of the Marvel's Voices Infinity Comics, stepped up to her first major limited series here, pairing with artist Farid Karami, who had previously drawn Venom: Lethal Protector. Editor Wil Moss shepherded all three issues, and Andrea Sorrentino — whose painted cover style had already become closely associated with Black Panther — provided covers for the run.
