History

The series was announced on February 12, 2024, as part of Marvel's rollout of Blood Hunt tie-in miniseries — a summer 2024 crossover event written by Jed MacKay with art by Pepe Larraz that had been teased at New York Comic Con in October 2023. Writer Cheryl Lynn Eaton, previously known for work on Marvel's Voices anthology, was paired with artist Farid Karami, whose prior Marvel work included Venom: Lethal Protector; editor Wilson Moss and colorist Andrew Dalhouse rounded out the creative team, with covers by Andrea Sorrentino. The 40-page debut issue went on sale May 29, 2024, launching a three-issue miniseries that was subsequently collected alongside Strange Academy: Blood Hunt and Hulk: Blood Hunt in a trade paperback edition.

The issue introduces the Adze as antagonists appearing in the Wakandan storyline; the Adze are vampire creatures rooted in real West African folklore and mythology, representing a deliberate expansion of Marvel's vampire lore beyond its European foundations.
Shuri (referred to in the Marvel Database by her title Aja-Adanna) appears in this issue alongside the Hatut Zeraze and Dora Milaje, grounding the supernatural conflict in Wakandan political and military reality.
