# Museum Catalog Note

This issue of Boys of Blue Weekly (February 10, 1905) contains "Driven Back; or, Rosin Blue's Clever Retreat" by Lieutenant Harry Lee, a Civil War adventure serial featuring the "Fairdale Blues"—a company of boy soldiers from New York who have left school to fight for the Union. The narrative follows young Captain Jack Clark and First Lieutenant Hal Martin as they conduct reconnaissance behind Confederate lines, narrowly escape guerilla fighters, and receive orders from General Grant to hold a strategic mountain pass at Black Hollow against a Confederate advance. After establishing fortifications and a picket line, the Blues successfully repel an attack by approximately three hundred Confederate soldiers attempting to pass through the cut. The serial combines tactical military narrative with young-adult adventure elements.
