# Buffalo Bill's Road-Agent Round-up
This installment of Beadle and Adams' dime novel features "The Masked Man in Black," by Col. Prentiss Ingraham, author of Buffalo Bill novels. In Chapter One, "The Traitor's Doom," an outlaw band led by the masked Captain Cobra executes three men for theft and disloyalty—the robbery of a Fort Summer coach. The execution proceeds by lottery: numbered chips placed in the "Raffle of Death" box determine which gang members serve as executioners. Two observers watch from above: Lieutenant McKenny Willis and Buffalo Bill, the famous scout. In Chapter Two, one condemned man, Sol Nichols, survives the execution. Chapter Three introduces Lem Nichols, Sol's brother, who intercepts Lieutenant Willis on a stage trail to request Buffalo Bill's help in escaping the Cobra gang.
