· November 30, 1892

"Theron, of the Thumbless Ones" by Captain Howard Holmes is the featured serial in this November 30, 1892 issue. Chapter I, "The Child Who Watched the Clock," introduces young Tina, who lives in poverty with Mother Clutch in a tenement room, finding solace in listening to a clock's hourly chimes. Tina has long observed a sorrowful middle-aged man in the opposite building. One evening, she spots a different man with a handprint—notably thumbless—pressed on the wall of the stranger's room. Mother Clutch summons a detective named Fox to investigate. Chapter II introduces Joral Jet, an Indian snake dealer living nearby, who maintains deadly reptiles in his room. A mysterious visitor examines his collection of deadly serpents, discussing their lethal capabilities.
