This February 1900 issue of the Detective Quartet Library features "The Mystery of Henry Warenne's Death Was Solved!" by T. W. King, author of "The Dauntless Detective" and other works. Detective Cameron Bronson, newly married, answers a house-rental advertisement on West 80th Street near Central Park. Upon meeting the landlord Henry Warenne in the library, Bronson discovers him dead with a bullet wound behind his right ear—a small-caliber shot with internal bleeding. The weapon is missing. Through systematic investigation, Bronson discovers a secret sliding panel in the dining room's sideboard connecting to the library desk, determining the murderer escaped via the pantry window while the butler admitted Bronson. A gold watch chain found outside belongs to the thief, identified as the dead man's nephew Charles Lawrence, who had quarreled with his uncle and possessed a house key.
