# September 1926 Issue of Amazing Stories
This issue of Amazing Stories, Experimenter Publishing Company's science fiction monthly, contains five works. "In the Abyss" by H.G. Wells depicts an ocean explorer encountering chameleon-like fish people at the ocean bottom. The second installment of Garrett P. Serviss's serial "A Columbus of Space" continues its narrative of space adventure with scientifically accurate detail. Jules Verne's "The Purchase of the North Pole," running as a two-part serial, presents an ingenious mathematical puzzle resolved only in its conclusion. G. McLeod Winsor concludes his three-part serial "Station X." Richard Adams Locke's "The Moon Hoax" is also included.
Editor Hugo Gernsback's opening editorial discusses the magazine's title, defending "Amazing Stories" against reader suggestions to rename it "Scientifiction," arguing the current title better attracts general readers while the content maintains rigorous scientific and originality standards. The issue emphasizes the magazine's six-month-old status and monthly circulation of 100,000 copies.
