This issue of Adventure magazine (November 10, 1924) contains seven stories plus departments. "The Casual's Return," a complete novel by Leonard H. Nason, follows Sergeant Robert Eadie, a regular artillery sergeant with a disheveled outfit, who arrives at a cantonment to report for duty with the Ninth Trench Mortar Battery but finds the unit disorganized with poor food. Rather than report as ordered, Eadie tears up his assignment papers. He then enters the "Overseas Casuals" processing station where soldiers left behind when their units deploy are processed. After his own leave proves expired and his outfit long departed, Eadie is escorted under guard across the road and up a hill to a barbed-wire-enclosed barracks compound with watchtowers and searchlights—revealing he's now detained. Other pieces include stories by Sidney E. Johnson, Nevil Henshaw, F.R. Buckley, Talbot Mundy, Alan LeMay, Eugene Cunningham, and John Webb across Western, naval, colonial, and adventure themes.
