This issue of Adventure magazine from January 20, 1922 contains five stories and serials. "Tides of Hate" by Captain Dingle is the featured complete novel, depicting civil war among Caribbean pirates on Aves Island following a hurricane. The narrative opens with drunken pirate crews and introduces the Schoolmaster—a deceptively mild-mannered captive with hidden strength—and Nell Clark, a female pirate. "Partners" by Boyd Fleming involves a man and woman. "The Bosun of the Goldenhorn's Yarn" by Bill Adams features Old Ocean as an agent of destiny. "Men of the Night" by Gordon Young is a four-part serial (Part II) about crime occurring behind the scenes. "Emperor of the Dragons" by F. St. Mars involves mighty passions. "Juice Hog Twenty-Seven" by Kenneth Gilbert pits electricity and nerve against a Rocky Mountain blizzard. The issue also includes "In Kaffir Kraals," an article by Santie Sabalala about Zulu practices, and "Powder Law," a complete novelette by W.C. Tuttle set in Montana.
