History of the Old Township of Dunstable
Fox, Charles J. (Charles James), 1811-1846 · 1846
This is not a Victorian penny dreadful, but rather a local history compiled by Charles J. Fox and published in Nashua, New Hampshire, in 1846. The volume presents a comprehensive history of the Old Township of Dunstable, encompassing Nashua, Nashville, Hollis, Hudson, Litchfield, and Merrimac in New Hampshire, and Dunstable and Tyngsborough in Massachusetts. Fox draws extensively from town proprietary records, Massachusetts state records housed in Boston, and materials from various historical societies. The work traces the settlement and development of these towns and includes statistical information on the communities. Fox, a lawyer and legislator who died in 1846 during the work's publication, had earlier traveled to the Mediterranean and West Indies, where he observed slavery and contributed letters on his observations to local publications.
