Yolanda Vargas Dulché
Yolanda Vargas Dulché de la Parra was a Mexican writer born on July 18, 1926, in Mexico City, where she also died on August 8, 1999. She is best known for creating the comic book character Memín Pinguín, which debuted in 1943 when she began writing to supplement her income for several newspapers. By 1960, she had published numerous comic books, which inspired her husband, Guillermo de la Parra, to also take up writing. Together, they crafted several successful telenovelas, including *Rubí*, which was originally serialized from 1963 to 1964 in the romance comic *Lágrimas, Risas y Amor* and later adapted for both television and film. Over her career, Vargas Dulché published more than sixty titles in Mexico and abroad. In our catalog, she is credited as a writer on 28 issues spanning 1970 to 2012, with her most frequent credits appearing in *Memín Pinguín*, *Lágrimas Risas y Amor*, *Yesenia*, *Memín Pinguín Regresa*, *Clásicos de Lágrimas Risas y Amor*, and *Rubí*. Her work remains a cornerstone of Mexican popular culture, blending romance and drama in both comics and television.
