Jörg Buttgereit
Jörg Buttgereit was born on 20 December 1963 in Berlin, Germany, where he has lived his entire life. He first gained notoriety as a filmmaker, directing controversial horror movies such as *Nekromantik* (1987), *Der Todesking* (1990), *Nekromantik 2* (1991), and *Schramm* (1993). After a six-year break from the entertainment industry, he returned to direct an episode of the television series *Lexx* in 1999. In 2015, he collaborated with fellow horror directors Andreas Marschall and Michal Kosakowski on the anthology film *German Angst*.
Buttgereit brought his distinctive sensibility to comics in the 2010s. His superhero character, Captain Berlin, was adapted into a comic book series in 2013, and he later wrote a comic book version of *Nekromantik*. In our catalog, he is credited as a writer on 15 issues from 2014 to 2024, with his most prolific work appearing in *Jörg Buttgereits Captain Berlin* and the *Nekromantik* comic. His style blends transgressive horror with dark humor and pulp sensibilities.
Buttgereit remains based in Berlin, continuing to work in both film and comics. His contributions to underground horror and alternative comics have earned him a dedicated following, though major industry awards have not been noted in available sources.
