Yoshihiro Tatsumi’s The Push Man and Other Stories collects sixteen of his stark, early-1970s short comics, originally serialized in Japan and translated by Yuji Oniki. Published by Drawn & Quarterly in 2005, this single-issue volume introduced English-speaking readers to Tatsumi’s gritty, humanist gekiga style—a counterpoint to mainstream manga—through tales of urban alienation, desire, and desperation.
