About the series
A short-lived but explosively entertaining Marvel series from 2006–2007, Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. was a twelve-issue satirical action-comedy co-created by writer Warren Ellis and artist Stuart Immonen. It followed a team of D-list superheroes—Monica Rambeau, Machine Man, Elsa Bloodstone, Boom-Boom, and the Captain—as they rebelled against their corrupt government handlers and fought an absurd array of "unusual weapons of mass destruction." Though it ran only a dozen issues, its brash, self-aware tone and Immonen's kinetic art made it a cult favorite, influencing Marvel's later embrace of irreverent, character-driven storytelling.
