Aya de Yopougon

Aya de Yopougon, originally published in French by Gallimard from 2013 to 2014, is a four-issue series that follows the everyday lives and dreams of young people in the working-class Abidjan neighborhood of Yopougon, Ivory Coast. Written and drawn by Marguerite Abouet and Clément Oubrerie, the series is celebrated for its warm, slice-of-life portrayal of contemporary West African urban life, a refreshing alternative to the adventure and superhero stories that dominated the medium.
