“Sometime Somewhere”

"Sometime Somewhere" is a delightfully quirky tale from Valentine #21 (November 1959), where Jill’s frustrated boyfriend, Jim, finally seems to have cracked his latest invention—a floor mixture that accidentally becomes a miraculous fertilizer. When the mixture fails to set and ruins her boss’s prized flowers, the man’s sudden reappearance a week later—very much alive and eager to partner with Jim—hints at something far stranger than mere luck. Illustrated with charm and precision by Florenci Clavé, this whimsical story blends invention, irony, and a touch of the inexplicable in a rare, early glimpse of the comic’s unique tone.

Jill's boyfriend is an amateur inventor, but she gets fed up because his inventions always seem to fail spectacularly. She gives him one more chance and it seems he has succeeded in creating a revolutionary floor mixture. Jill gets her boss to try it out, but it doesn't set and her boss is furious. He kicks the bucket and the patent liquid goes all over his prize flowers. But a week later he shows up again because it turns out the floor mixture was a great fertilizer and he wants to manufacture it with Jim in charge.
