Gilbert Shelton's gloriously grotesque superhero gets a well-deserved showcase in this Knockabout collection, bringing together highlights from the long-running Wonder Wart-Hog series. The cover says it all: a squat, tusked, thoroughly unimpressive-looking creature strikes a triumphant pose against a swirling purple and yellow burst, pearl necklace and all — equal parts ridiculous and oddly magnificent. If you've ever wanted an antidote to square-jawed, noble heroism, this 2013 volume is a very fine place to start.
