This French-language Urban Comics edition of Tom King and Mitch Gerads' Sheriff of Babylon opens with a quietly gripping cover: two women — one seated and sipping from a delicate cup, the other standing close behind her in a white hijab — share an intimate, almost domestic moment set against a warm orange backdrop filled with ornate lanterns. The calm is deceptive, though, as a handgun and a designer handbag resting on the table hint at the dangerous world just outside the frame. Gerads' measured, painterly composition perfectly captures the series' signature tension between everyday human connection and the volatile reality of post-invasion Baghdad.
