Nelson Mandela: The Authorized Comic Book #[nn]
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freePublished in 2009 with the full blessing of the Mandela family, this authorized graphic biography brings one of history's most compelling lives to the comics page in four vivid cover panels: a smiling elder Mandela radiates warmth in the lower left, a young figure raises a triumphant fist amid fiery light, and quieter scenes of township life and hardship fill the upper panels, together sketching a life that moved from humble beginnings to the world stage. A substantial creative ensemble — writers Santa Buchanan and Andrew Smith alongside artists Pitshou Mampa, Pascal Nzoni, and Sivuyile Matwa among others — brings real depth and authenticity to the project. For anyone drawn to biography, history, or simply remarkable visual storytelling, this is a genuinely moving entry point into Mandela's extraordinary story.

In freedom at last, Mandela enters into frustrating stop-and-go negotiations with the government, even as the armed struggle continues. Radical white conservatives fight against negotiations, while some African groups try to strike out on their own -- a movement promoted and even armed by the white radicals. Internal violence and police violence kill hundreds. Even so, Mandela receives the Nobel Peace Prize. Demcocratic elections are finally scheduled, campaigned for, and conducted. The A.N.C. wins a healthy majority, and De Klerk graciously concedes defeat. Power transfer is at hand.
