The second chapter of Dmitry Glukhovsky and Peter Nuyten's Dutch-language adaptation — subtitled Masker der Duisternis ("Mask of Darkness") — plunges deeper into the post-apocalyptic tunnels of Moscow's metro system. The cover sets an immediately unsettling tone: a hulking, dark creature with glowing orange eyes crouches low on debris-strewn railway tracks, framed by the crushing darkness of a crumbling tunnel. It's a beautifully oppressive image that captures exactly the kind of dread Glukhovsky's underground world is known for, and Arboris delivers it with real atmosphere in this 2022 edition.
