"Office Cinderella" follows Ruth, a young woman who becomes romantically involved with Tom after he invites her to cultural outings and eventually to a football game. When Tom fails to call her for several days, Ruth learns he has been dating someone else, which deeply troubles her. After Tom reappears and they resume dating, Ruth realizes she must choose between her feelings for him and her own self-respect, ultimately deciding to end their relationship and focus on her future, including refusing his attempt to reconcile. The story concludes with Ruth receiving a television set as a graduation gift and beginning to move forward with her life.
